After a dismal start, including the removal of head coach Mike Yeo and naming assistant coach Craig Berube interim head coach, the Blues have recovered nicely riding a current winning streak of 9 wins in a row.  This is the Blues longest winning streak since 2002.  Early on, the Blues suffered from inconsistencies with the offense and goaltending.  Tarasenko under-performed, he was even rumored to be on the trading block.  Pietrangelo wasn’t playing well and Jake Allen wasn’t very good.

On January 5, 2019 the Blues recalled goaltender Jordan Binnington from San Antonio.  Binnington responded with a shutout in his first career start.  Since being recalled from San Antonio, Binnington’s record is 11-1-1 with a .938 save percentage, a 1.53 goals-against average and 3 shutouts.  Tarasenko has 10 goals and 9 assist in a career-high 11-game point streak.  The Blues went from last place in the Western Conference to currently residing in third place in the Central Division.  This all was the result of Tarasenko driving the team offense and Binnington stabilizing the goaltending situation.
